Weekly Distribution Release Roundup for April 6-April 12
We have a few distros that are new to our list and quite a few familiar faces this week. Read on for the full list.
April 6
- Mandriva 2009.1 Spring RC2 Mandriva released their 2nd release candidate for their upcoming 2009.1 release. This RC’s major updates include KDE 4.2.2, GNOME 2.26,X.org server 1.6, and kernel 2.6.29. The full release notes can be found here.
April 7
- Clonezilla Live 1.2.1-53 This clonezilla live release is based off of the Debian Lenny repository from 04/06/2009 and includes updated language files, merging of -j2 and -j3 to only -j2, and many other bugfixes.
- Linux Mint 6 “Felicia” KDE and Fluxbox CE: The Linux Mint project released the KDE and Fluxbox versions. The Fluxbox version is based off of Xubuntu 8.10, Linux 2.6.27, Fluxbox 1.0.0 and Xorg 7.4. The KDE version is based on Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, Linux 2.6.27, Xorg 7.4 and it comes with KDE 4.2 and Amarok 2.0.
April 9
- Slax 6.1.0 The Slax project announced the availability of the 6.1.0 release of their Slackware-based distribution. They are now running on Slackware-current before the KDE4 additions and have added xorg packages to auto-start fluxbox if KDE is not present, added new wallpapers, and made a few other changes as well. This is planned as the last non-bugfix release of Slax 6.X.
- Untangle Gateway 6.1.0 Untangle is a Debian-based distro designed for firewalls and gateways. This release is updated to the Debian Lenny base and uses kernel 2.6.26. The Spam Blocker component has received a big update along with many other fixes and updates. You can check out the full changelog here.
April 10
- Kwort Linux 2.4.1.1 Kwort is a Slackware-based distro that aims for speed and ease of use. It includes Xfce and many other useful tools to provide a powerful desktop. This release contains kerne 2.6.28.7, new versions of Kwort User Manager and Kwort Network Manager, updated Xfce, updated init system, an updated Kpkg, and many other package updates.
- PCBSD 7.1 PCBSD announced their 7.1 version and the details I have been able to gather are limited since their website appears to be down at the moment. This release is based off of FreeBSD 7.1 and includes KDE 4.2.2mXorg 7.4, and some other updates. When their website is available again check out the release notes and full changelog.
April 11
- m0n0wall 1.3 beta 16 m0n0wall is a FreeBSD-based firewall distribution. This beta release includes initial support for secondary IP addresses, DHCPv6 support, allowing IPv6 addresses for DNS servers on the system, and some other updates.
April 12
- Epidemic GNU/Linux 3.0 Epidemic is a Brazilian Debian testing-based distro that includes KDE4. This release has KDe 4.2 as the default desktop, Easy Channel package manager has been included and ported to KDE4, Enetwork network management tool has also been ported to KDE4 API and has some new features, Ependrive which is a utility that allows the user to save/discard changes when running off of a pendrive, two other Epidemic-developed utilities named Einstaller and Ecommunity, and many other updates.
- Tiny Core Linux 1.3 Tiny Core is a minimalist (10MB!) linux desktop. This release bas busybox 1.13.3, pcmcia-utils 015, aterm 1.00.01, and many other updates.
