  • Astaro Security Gateway Beta 7.500 The Astaro team announced the latest beta release of their Security Gateway distribution. New features include a new version of their IPS engine, scaling massively with multi-core CPUs/appliances, clicking interfaces on dashboard to see “what’s happening on my network right now”, detailed packet/firewall reports, detailed IM/P2P reports, and quite a few other features. They expect the testing period to run from May 29 – July 15. I’ve tinkered with the home version of the ASG in the past and have been rather impressed but in the end decided to move away from it since it was far more than I needed for my home network. Some of these new features may make me reconsider installing it in a VM and hooking up my passive tap interfaces to it to see what it finds.
  • Linux Mint 7 “Gloria” The Linux Mint team has announced the availability of release 7 codenamed “Gloria”.  This version is based on Ubuntu 9.04 and includes kernel 2.6.28, Gnome 2.26 and Xorg 7.4 with all the great Linux Mint usability/ease of use customizations. Check out the full list of whats new.
