Weekly Distribution Release Roundup for June 15 – 21
Lots of releases this week, including one of my favorites: BackTrack
June 15
- SystemRescueCD 1.2.1 Another SystemRescueCD release with updated kernel to 2.6.29 and some other utility updates.
June 16
- BlankOn 5.0 BlankOn is an Indonesian-language Ubuntu-based distro. This release has GNOME 2.26, OOO.org 3.0.1, kernel 2.6.28, and numerous other software updates.
- Parted Magic 4.2 PartedMagic updates to 4.2 this week, new features include CloneZilla being integrated, and replacing of bzip2/gzip with pbzip2 and pigz for speed improvements.
June 17
- WebConverger 4.9 WebConverger is a Debian-based live CD designed for use in web kiosks. In this release they upgrade their misnamed Firefox to 3.0.11, back to xpdf for PDF reading, and many other updates.
June 18
- PureOS 2.0 Beta1 PureOS is a desktop-focused distro based on Debian’s testing branch. This release include kernel 2.6.27.8, KDE 4.2.2, OpenOffice.org 3.0.
- Debris Linux 1.8.2 Beta Debris is a minimalist Ubuntu-based distro. This beta includes a fix to isolinux CD that wouldn’t boot and a bug in with the ehci_hcd module being load in an incorrect order.
June 19
- Pardus 2009 Beta The second testing release of Pardus 2009 includes KDE 4.2.4, Linux kernel 2.6.30_rc8, OpenOffice.Org 3.1.0.6, Mozilla Firefox 3.5 RC1, Gimp 2.6.6, Xorg 1.6.2pre and Python 2.6.2.
- ClarkConnect 5.0 RC2 The new features/updates for ClarkConnects 2nd 5.0 release candidate are an upgrade to CentOS 5.3 base, completed LDAP integration, and other fixes and updates.
June 20
- BackTrack 4 Pre-Final The Remote Exploit team has released the pre-final version of BackTrack4 to the public. No specific change notes found, but I know the team is working hard to fix bugs and add more security tools.
- Ultimate Edition 2.2 Ultimate Edition is an Ubuntu-based live distro that includes enhanced software and drivers. This release is based off of Ubuntu 9.04 and includes all of the standard Ultimate Edition goodies installed.
- FreeNAS 0.7 RC1 Major changes to the first RC of FreeNAS 0.7 include an update to FreeBSD 7.2 base, ZFS support, upgrade iSCSI initiator, and numerous other changes.
